U and Me at Muse of London, Colour & Cut VIP Styleee - The Review

A very excited me went into London to visit Muse of London, I met with Jason Cocking their number one Creative Director at the Salon.  The Salon its located a short walk away from Oxford Circus.

Jason has been in the biz for the last 18 years, he's been a member of the Muse Team for the last 2 year, actual ever since the Salon opened.  He is clearly passionate about his work and extremely busy.  He works with the public every day. He has been lucky to work his magic of a few celebrities too and worked with leading magazines like Vogue.  He is definitely going places.

I was met by the receptionist, she gave me tour of the salon.  The salon is on 2 floors, the ground floor is the hairdressers, waiting room area and toilet, the basement has the beauticians.

The waiting room area has proper coffee machine and magazines displayed for everyone's tastes. A very funky Smeg fridge with water and juice, you can help yourself.  Also for the gadget junky there is Wi-Fi too.

I have to say, my first impression is its stylish, trendy, upbeat and fashionable, not pompous or egotistic.  I personally hate going into places I feel like an outsider.  The staff match the salon, everyone is friendly, their environment is relaxed yet professional.

Jason, introduced himself to me, my consultation went fairly quickly, he did come across as nervous at first. He asked me what I wanted, which threw me a bit, however I did have an idea for a long bob.

I suggested to Jason as he was the colour expert I would leave him to take control of that.  My hair has different shades of brown the ends being lighter. He advised that light shades would leave me looking washed out, making me looked drained.  So he went with a TIGI Chestnut brown, the colour had a glossy colourant.  The shade was very similar to my natural hair colour, I can not really tell the difference.

One of his colleagues Danielle washed my hair. (I had expected Jason is do the complete job as part of the U and Me package, however he did advise that someone was off ill, they were short staffed - He was also working with another customer/understandably the paying customer would come first)  Jason returned to colour my hair and left me sitting comfortably on one of their massage chairs.

He later rinsed the colour out, Danielle gave me a wonderful head massage.

Jason worked his magic with his scissors, while working he made me feel very comfortable.  He explained the Muse of London had been here for 2 years.  Its a busy salon, that can cater for anyone.  They offer some great Express Services;  The Root Bar, The Bleach Bar & The Style Bar I love these services, in and out within an hour, at the Root & Bleach bars a stylist will colour/bleach your hair and you can finish your style/blowdry at the Self Dry area.  All the charges are very reasonable especially so for Central London.  These wonderful extras have been really thought through, perfect for Londoners with busy lifestyles.  Also, if you are on holiday, staying locally and want something fun and stylish, I definitely recommend popping in for a visit too.

The U and Me experience, is another Service, however this is more laid back, its has been created for someone looking to bond with an experienced stylist, making their experience a personal one rather then feeling unsure or not happy or even out of place.  Jason, can recommend treatments, colour and styles to suit your face, skin tones.

Jason cut my hair and wisely asked how I blow-dry. I didn't lie, I throw my head upside down use my hands mostly.  He showed me that's was fine, he used his hands ensuring my hair was dry before using a barrel hair to add some body and shape, then using straighteners to finish me off.

My hair was prefect, it felt lighter, I had about 2 inches taken off.  The colour is slightly darker, very fresh feeling and vibrate now, very glossy looking.

All the products used are TIGI, as my hair is dry, I was given TIGI Catwalk Oatmeal and Honey Shampoo and Conditioner.  Firstly, they smell lovely, fresh and all day lasting.  My hair is very soft and silky now.

Overall I was very happy with my experience; the salon is beautiful, its off the wall with personality, its bold, eye catching fashionable and fun, TIGI is everywhere. The stylists are warm, friendly and in-tune with the their clients.  Jason is gem, he is focused, works fast and a wizard with his scissors.

The U and Me costs £199. This will include from start to finish with Jason, your consultation, colour, cut, a blow drying lesson and styling education, products and a follow-up appointment, you can either tweak your style or have a blowdry.

Dont be shy, come and say Hi!

#UpBeat # ProteinChallenge, my meals and experience

For a week I have changed my eating habits for the UpBeat #ProteinChallenge, introducing a daily intake of 70g of protein.  This has mostly been a meat and fish free diet. I have tried to experiment with new dishes and ingredients supplied by Upbeat team.  Also trying for the first time their protein drinks and including them in my daily diet too.

As I wanted to eat a vegetarian protein diet, I found it very interesting trying to get the right foods together, to make filling family meals.

My diet consisted of a lot of eggs! They are so versatile:
Poached, boiled, scrambled, Omelettes! I really found them to be my best friend. Great for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.  One egg has 13g of Protein.  (Lunch would usually be 2 poached eggs, my fave)

Here are the dishes I made during my week.

Quinoa Fritters, Sweet potato wedges
Mindbodygreen - No almond meal - I used dessicated coconut and corn flour

Blueberry and Banana pancakes
Jamie Oliver - with a mash banana

Vegetarian Noddles with a poached egg
stir fry: spring onions, mushrooms, carrot, spinach, onion and red peppers
(I used almond oil, Chinese 5 spice and light soya sauce)

Granola, sliced banana & Strawberries with plain yogurt

Moroccan Vegetable Tagine with Cous cous
BBC Good Food

Granola, Sliced banana, blueberries and sunflower seeds

Cous cous stuffed peppers, with tomato, feta cheese and kidney bean sauce
Vegetable casserole and cous cous
Garlic, onion, cherry tomatoes, spinach, courgettes, lots of vegetable stock

Banana, Coconut, Walnut and Fruit cake
Allrecipes - I added 3 eggs, a handful of walnuts, dessicated coconut and 4 mashed banana

This week was also halfterm, I had my boys home and we went out a lot.  This is when Upbeat came in super handing. Drinking on go!

Blueberry & Raspberry UpBeat 20g protein
Upbeat tasted great, lovely flavours, not powdery or chalky drinks.  This is an already made drink, I just gave it a shake and drunk it. All the flavours were fruity, my favourite is the Blueberry and Raspberry.  They are mostly priced £1.89 a lot of stores are selling them for £1 at the moment.
I found them filling at first, but I definitely needed mind over matter as I would get hungry an hour later if I hadn't eaten lunch.

I had 3 meals a day, breakfast, lunch and dinner. I mostly felt full, there were times I was hungry but that would be in the evening.  I found snacking on nuts and cut vegetables would cure my snack attack.

I really enjoyed cooking different meals, its made a change from eating the same dishes I usually cooked. Cooking vegetarian meals made no difference to cooking meat ones, I enjoyed it, I used lots of spices and herbs, all the dishes had lots of flavour and nothing tasted bland.  My food was mostly enjoyed by all my family.  A huge hit were the quinoa fritters, my eldest son couldn't get enough of them, I have to agree they were delicious, also the banana cake came out much better then I thought it would.

So it does pay to try something different.  I love that my kids and boyfriend tried new dishes.  All and all its been an eye opening experience and taken me out of my comfort zone.  There is protein in all foods and ways to boost your intake no matter what dietary requirements you have.

I have been eaten more protein then usual and less meat.  I feel good within my self.  I only lost 4 lbs, but this a great start.

Disclaimer: Please note this is an unsponsored post. I was sent some shopping and a few vouchers to buy the Upbeat drinks.  These are all my own honest opinions.

Dont be shy, come and say Hi!

I'm going to have 'U + ME' Experience at Muse of London, Hair Salon!

Tomorrow I have been booked in to Muse of London, a super stylish salon in the heart of Central London, on Mortimer Street.

The salon is in with the times, offering free wifi, a bike station and for those of you who like to hang out with your pooch, this is a dog friendly zone (for the well behaved pooch.)  Even thou I would love to take Tyson with me. He would cry and insist on cuddles.

I will be in the care of Jason Cocking, their Creative Director.  Jason has over 18 years of salon experience, being a Creative Director I know I will be in safe hands.

He is very talented as he had his hands on quite a few celebrities too, the beautiful Kat Deeley, The Olsen Twins to drop a few names and these ladies always look impeccable.

Lucky me, I have been invited into the salon to experience a complimentary 'U + Me' a personal hair makeover.  This would usually cost £199.  Jason will look after like a VIP.

Step 1 - Consultation / Talking about my likes, hates and hair style desires!!! Eeeek!!!

Step 2 - No need to Worry / Talking colour, for me this is scary part - (No hidden costs)

Step 3 - Hair Reborn / Shampoo & Condition - Jason will diagnose my scalp and hair from roots to tips, he will let me know my hair type.
I always classed my hair as fine and lots of it... I have a feeling there is a lot more to it then that.  It will be good to know the prefect shampoo and conditions for my hair type.

Step 4 - New you / Time to cut

Step 5 - Lesson Learnt / How can I achieve my look at home.
Yes, help will be needed. I have all the gadgets.  I am looking forward to a real blow dry lesson (what do you mean I dont throw my head upside shaking the dryer like a nutter)  and hair styling experience.  This is going to be so much fun!

Step 6 - See you soon  / After care at its finest. I will get to go back and see how I am getting on, as a new hairstyle can take time to get used too.  Maybe tweak it or just have a blow hair.

I am very excited, I haven't actually said anything to anyone about going to the salon.  I want to see some surprised faces.  Currently I have a few ideas but, do I play it safe or got wild. I have a feeling Jason will look at me and say..... This will suit you! I will be a reflection of his experience.

So which this space.

 Gemini Twins

I'm very bad at being very good or is that very good at being very bad.

Ha ha! I can be good really! ;)

I'm a typical Gemini always having conversations with myself!

UpBeat #ProteinChallenge.

I am excited to be taking part in the UpBeat #ProteinChallenge.

The aim is to increase my understanding of adding Protein into my diet, making healthier choices and hopefully stopping the temptation of snaking on unhealthy foods.

Upbeat is a delicious dairy protein drink.

There are 3 flavours;  Strawberry, Blueberry & Raspberry, Mango & Passion Fruit.

I have been sent 7 vouchers to buy some bottles of Upbeat. Each bottle contains 20g of protein.  Great as a meal top-up or  meal supplement through the day.

So its time to eat more protein!!!

As a guide The DRI (Dietary Reference Intake) is 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight or 0.36 grams per pound
  • 56 grams per day for the average inactive man.
  • 46 grams per day for the average inactive woman.

Personally I need to go on a diet, I have put on far too much weight.  I gone from skipping meals (mostly eaten vegetarian) to eating 3 meals a day, eating a lot of red meat.
So I have decided to eat a no meat, no fish diet for the next 7 days.

The UpBeat team have set me some basic shopping goods, some unusual goods too, to see what I cook and where I get my protein from.

A bag of Red Lentils
A bag of Cous Cous
A bag of Quinoa
3 Packs of Noddles
A big tub of plan Yoghurt
3x Onions
A pack of Sunflower seeds
A block of Feta Cheese
18 eggs
A Bag of Spinach
Sweet potatoes
3 sweet peppers
A box of frozen Blue Berry
A tin of Cannellini beans
A tin of Sweetcorn
A bag of dried fruit
A pack blanched almonds
A bunch of bananas
A pack of cherry tomatoes

Wow lost of healthy foods!!!

Important: How am I feeling prior to this challenge.
Today is the 15th February.
Yesterday, I spent the day rushing about, cleaning, shopping, cooking, cake making.  It was my sons birthday.  We had family coming over in the afternoon, every one wanting feeding, cups of tea.
I cooked and stuffed my face with rice, creamy potato salad, mini homemade burgers, coleslaw, corn on the cob. Not very much protein in the meal.  Not to mention the Chocolate cake I baked.
Later in the evening once the boys went to bed, I couldn't open a bottle of wine fast enough. After 2 large glasses of Rose. Me and my boyfriend popped open the bottle of Champagne we have been saving for a special occasion, well it was Valentines after all. We stayed up talking until the wee hours of the morning.

Today... I had the biggest lie-in... until midday!
I had a huge pile of dishes, pots, roasting tins, every single cup and all glasses I own to wash.  An hour or so later the kitchen actually looked slightly normal again. I could see the kitchen tops again.  I even had a fat dog full of bones!

Energy wise, I have felt lazy today, I missed breakfast, I didn't want to make lunch, as we had some food left over from yesterday. I made a chunky cheesy omlette, we had this with rice and salad, all the boys had cold roasted chicken wings too (from yesterday).

Now in the early evening my eyelids are heavy, yesterdays feast hasn't done me any wonders today.

So tomorrow will be the start of a new week, filled with good healthy high in protein meals. Lets see how I feel, if I lose any weight and what I can conjure up in the kitchen.

Here are some fellow Bloggers, also taking part!
You can follow them via twitter and check them out too!
I have taken to my books for inspiration

So please follow my journey this week! - Don't be shy, say Hi!
